Various Name of Yogyakarta...
We usually heard people naming Yogyakarta with various name. Someone named it Ngayogyakarta, others named it Jogja, Djokdja, Yogjo or Yojo. Maybe this is not a big problem for a group of people. But I believe this could be confusing for someone out there especially for those who comes from foreign country. But actually, those names pointed to one area that is Yogyakarta.
How could this be happened??
The truth is the official name used by the Yogyakarta Government itself is Yogyakarta. This could be proved by the statement from Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX when Yogyakarta declared to unite with Indonesia in 1945. The Ngayogyakarta name itself comes from Keraton where Sultan Hamengku Buwono lived in and it’s called Keraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. Yogyakarta itself is an open city for people and because of that there are various human races with various culture too who,lived in Yogyakarta. Maybe because of that, the name of Yogyakarta has various called too among those people.
This thing is become interesting because people have knowing each other when they asked about those names of Yogyakarta. For business purposes the name Jogja has become famous because the “Jogja Never Ending Asia” slogan. This slogan used to campaign Yogyakarta as tourism place which have so much pleasure spot like Parangtritis Beach, Malioboro Street, Sultan Palace, etc.
Now you’ve know already about one of many unique sides of Yogyakarta. For formal business, government usually uses the Yogyakarta name. But for tourism, Jogja name more recognized than other to point Yogyakarta. I believe that if you visiting Yogyakarta you’ll find that there’s a lot more fun and unique sides of Yogyakarta.
